Biodegradation of Composites of Polylactic Acid and Microfibrillated Lignocellulose

چکیده

Abstract We present a study of the controlled biodegradation polylactic acid (PLA) reinforced with high lignin containing microfibrillated cellulose (MFLC) isolated from chemi-thermomechanical pulp. The surface MFLC was modified using an acetylation method to decrease its polarity. Biocomposites different and acetylated (Ac-MFLC) contents were fabricated via solvent casting method. biocomposites performed by burying in soil holding at 45 ° C for 30 days. After burial, MFLC/biocomposites exhibited higher weight loss (5.4 %) compared neat PLA (4.2 Ac-MFLC/biocomposites (4.6 %). Morphological analysis results showed erosion change addition Ac-MFLC, resulting porous formations on biocomposites. These led loosening microfibril-PLA interface internal structure, significant storage modulus no antimicrobial properties, confirming their biotic degradability. Graphical

Lignocellulose biodegradation: Fundamentals and applications

Natural pastures are one of South Africa’s most important agricultural resources for it provides the cheapest source of animal feed (Aucamp & Danckwerts 1989). Natural grazing is threatened by expansion of the Karoo (semi-desert region) into grasslands, overgrazing, poisonous plants, poor grazing management practices, and bush densification. Finally, expanding human activities (agriculture, hou...

Effects of Biomass in Polyethylene or Polylactic Acid Composites

There is need for bioplastics to replace some of the total petroleum plastics used in the world, and help alleviate environmental pollution. Compounding bioplastics with Polyethylene (PE) or Polylactic acid (PLA) containing a dairy-based bioplastic resulted in composites with good mechanical properties. In this study, mass ratios of a dairy-protein-based material (DBP) ranging from 0, 5, 10 and...

Polylactic acid composites incorporating casein functionalized cellulose nanowhiskers

BACKGROUND Polylactic acid (PLA) is considered to be a sustainable alternative to petroleum-based polymers for many applications. Using cellulose fiber to reinforce PLA is of great interest recently due to its complete biodegradability and potential improvement of the mechanical performance. However, the dispersion of hydrophilic cellulose fibers in the hydrophobic polymer matrix is usually poo...

New Polylactic Acid Composites Reinforced with Artichoke Fibers

In this work, artichoke fibers were used for the first time to prepare poly(lactic acid) (PLA)-based biocomposites. In particular, two PLA/artichoke composites with the same fiber loading (10% w/w) were prepared by the film-stacking method: the first one (UNID) reinforced with unidirectional long artichoke fibers, the second one (RANDOM) reinforced by randomly-oriented long artichoke fibers. Bo...
